how to train your instinct (part II)

the theoretical explanation to this method comes from the idea that culture started with lists. with the advent of stone (or clay) planks, forming civilizations started making lists. so, in a way, lists are the constitutive part of identity information.

group into categories the collection of your personal selections.

name your categories

add descriptions

build a hierarchy tree and/or map relations between categories.

expand your collection by searching your categories' keywords.

it needs not to be crucial choices... simply sit down in front of a random cast of a same category and choose the samples you like.

in the first 5 to 10 seconds you will see that there are some you like and some you completely dislike.
statistically, most will fall in the middle. dont pay attention to them. its important first to distinguish the ones that have the most impact in your senses.

music: go to pandora or last.fm, type some random radio and listen to the random selection. add to your library the ones you like, pass the ones you dislike.

go to flickr, browse by keyword or interesting. ditto youtube

colours and patterns: go to welovecolours.com and browse colours, palates and patterns.

go to any page of any topic of your liking and repeat this procedure. you'll see how quickly you'll start consolidating the yes/no answers according to your liking- that is expression of your instinct.
